Assignment | Evaluation | What was learnt from assignment? |
Presentation on a music video | - First task we really did on the A2 course and was a good benchmark for what was to come. - Was helpful to analyse a video for the first time. - Also good to put together a presentation and work on those skills. | - Gave me the first real chance to analyse a video, the styles + techniques used for it instead of just watching one for entertainment - Helped me to gather some ideas together for potential videos |
Essay comparing two music videos | - Completed well and on time. - Gave useful insight into techniques used in music videos + how they differ depending on song tempo/pitch/genre etc - I felt that I really well analysed the meanings behind the concept parts of the two videos + what they were supposed to show | - Different types of music video, e.g. concept, performance or narrative. - Different styles of videos, e.g funny (Blink 182) or serious (the Verve) - Budgets for videos, how they can differ depending on size/image of the band |
Changing image of a star | - Well structured, each slide targeted a different aspect of the band and their history - Strong examples and facts relating to the band | - Gave a good insight into how bands can change depending on the generation of their audience-or on how their producing company wants them to change - Also gave an insight into how bands can be more than just one or two genre. |
Institutions for big & small music videos | - Was quite difficult to research institutions, which meant this essay took time, but was still completed before the deadline and was well structured. | - Gave an insight into how budgets/big name institutions can help produce better + bigger videos. - Also how the relationship between the producer and consumer works. |
CD cover analysis | - Presented as a PowerPoint, which was good because I dedicated two slides to each of the 3 CD covers. - Took a lot of research and time, but was overall very helpful to help understand the reasons for different covers. | - As part of the course we will have to make our own CD cover, so this will give some inspiration for when we do that - Also allowed me to study how the band uses the album cover to sell the album and the band |
What music means to me | - Completed quickly and efficiently, to a high standard. - Consistent love for music made choosing just 3 songs quite difficult | - Allowed me to reflect on music + how much of an impact it has had on me - Also gave me some inspiration for potential tracks + what genre of music I’d like to do |
Potential tracks | - As we did this as a group, it was relatively quick, easy and thoroughly covered - We chose songs/bands the three of us liked, as well as songs we agreed that gave us some ideas for a video | - Allowed us to really learn about each other’s likes + dislikes - Also allowed us to discuss the types of genre we’d like to do, what some of our ideas for potential videos are |
Britney Experience | - I didn’t particularly enjoy the Britney experience, however I put in a substantial effort in to the production - I don’t particularly like performing, however I still did to help the class - I also grasped the editing techniques pretty quick | - Meant I was able to practice evaluations ahead of the evaluation I will have to do on our video - Britney experience allowed me to get firsthand experience with the cameras + editing, which will be invaluable when shooting our own video |
In which areas of the coursework production will your skills and understanding be strongest?
I enjoy writing and researching, so the Production Journal and Research will be where I will be able to work really well.
In which areas do you most need to improve?
I am not too great at all the technical stuff, like designing and creating things, so that may be a problem.
In which areas do you need most help?
I need help with keeping on track with things and not falling behind. Regular reminders of what I need to do will help me here.
What is your aim for the coursework?
To learn more about the Media Industry and work well in a team so we can all feel like we got out what we put into it and hopefully come away with increased knowledge and top grades.
